The winner of MedTech Actuator Origin Australia 2024 will receive a cash and in-kind prize pack worth over $15,000, and fast-tracked entry into MedTech Actuator Accelerator.

You will need to create a draft budget of how you plan to spend the prize money before funds are released. They can be used to set up a startup, validate your startup idea, and move your project closer to market.

Applications close on August 26. Successful recipients will be notified by the end of August.

The application includes just over 10 questions and you will be required to attach a video. It is recommended that you complete the application from a computer.

You may like to record the 2-minute video in advance.

Introduce yourself and your project, including:

– What is the problem you’re aiming to solve?

– What is your solution to this problem?

– How will your solution improve outcomes and/or save lives?

To be eligible for Origin, at least one team member must be based in Australia.

If you are currently overseas, e.g. for work or study, but fit within the eligibility above and a team member can attend the in-person components of the program in Melbourne then, yes, we would encourage you to apply.

You must have a research project, idea, or innovation in human health.

Your project or idea should not be beyond the proof of concept stage.

Applicants should be able to attend all program activities, both in-person (Melbourne) and online.

At the MedTech Actuator, we’re for innovators. This means creating opportunities for innovators from all corners of the system, and from multiple backgrounds and contexts.  MedTech Actuator encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply. Over the month of September, participants will take part in the following activities:

• Workshop #1: From Idea to Impact – September 12 (2 hours, online)
• Workshop #2: Driving Progress to Market – September 19 (2 hours, online)
• Pitch Bootcamp (Melbourne) – September 24 – 25

Come together for a two-day pitch bootcamp in Melbourne where you’ll elevate your pitch, interact with local founders and mentors, and learn to build your dream team.

• Semifinal (Melbourne) – September 25

Alongside other Origin Semifinalists, you’ll pitch your innovation in front of the selected ecosystem stakeholders MedTech Actuator for a place in the Origin Final in October at the MedTech Actuator Showcase Australia. 

• MedTech Actuator Showcase Australia and Origin Final (Melbourne) – October 10

Join MedTech Actuator and the ecosystem at a cocktail event to celebrate innovation in healthcare. Origin Finalists will pitch for three minutes each to the audience, and the Origin winner announced during the event.

Attendance at the following events is expected of one representative per team.

MedTech Actuator Origin is a fantastic opportunity for early-stage entrepreneurs and innovators to learn,  engage with the startup ecosystem, and pitch their ideas. The winner of MedTech Actuator Origin will receive a cash and in-kind prize pack worth over $20,000, and fast-tracked entry into MedTech Actuator Accelerator 2025.

If you’re a MedTech, BioTech or HealthTech project looking to transform into a startup, MedTech Actuator Origin will show you the ropes and provide you with a pathway forward. If you’re lucky and have the ability to pitch the house down, then you might even score some equity-free cash while you’re at it. 

Through intensive learning alongside a cohort of founders and innovators, you’ll be exposed to the ecosystem, industry leaders and so much more before you pitch to score a place at the Origin fFinal at the MedTech Actuator Showcase Australia. 

Topics covered include idea validation, intellectual property, pitching, professional development, pathways to market, business models, navigating Australia’s healthcare ecosystem, and funding for early-stage ventures.
