FathomX -- improving breast cancer screening through AI
FathomX is a digital health AI startup that started as a spin-off from the National University of Singapore, developing a range of AI technologies in the field of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is one of the world's top disease burdens. FathomX has created a unique product recognised in a global competition -- the AI Tech Demo Challenge organised by the United States White House -- identifying AI Technologies that could help enhance the clinical process of breast cancer screening.
As the top Asian team in the global Demo Challenge Competition, the founders have processed and scaled up quickly. FathomX has now been regularly approved in Singapore and Thailand while continuing in the regulatory pipeline in Japan and the US.
Another challenge the FathomX team faced was data quality and availability. As systems in each market are not always well connected or interoperable, it became important to have access to data that allowed their AI to be trained across different ethnicities, environments and imaging formats.
The team developed a flexible, agile, and rigorous approach to gaining approvals, working with various national and international partners. They have since expanded their reach to Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Experience with the MedTech Actuator Global Navigator Australia
The FathomX team utilised the Global Navigator Australia program to gain a deeper understanding and validate their knowledge of the Australian medtech innovation ecosystem. Their goal was to identify relevant partners to aid in commercialising and accessing the Australian market.
"The program was a quick summary of the Australian healthcare landscape in a very short time and connected us with extremely crucial introductions."
Over the past year, FathomX experienced significant growth including raising investment, testing and deployment of clinical trials in various countries, and obtaining approvals in different jurisdictions.
FathomX's product is currently approved for use in Singapore and Thailand. The company is collaborating with partners, distributors, and licensees to extend access to patients across the region and will continue to license its technology to over ten overseas markets in the next 2-3 years.
