MedVectors: Making Medical Research More Accessible with AI
Bailey Thomas
Clinicians and researchers rely on medical research to make informed decisions, but navigating millions of publications to find relevant, reliable evidence can be time-consuming and complex. MedVectors is addressing this challenge with an AI-powered medical search and text-mining platform designed to help healthcare professionals find answers faster.
Founded by Monash University’s Head of Paediatric Plastic Surgery and Research, Nelson Low, and medical student Callum Munns, MedVectors combines deep medical expertise with cutting-edge artificial intelligence to transform how medical knowledge is explored, interpreted and applied. Using advanced vector search and semantic retrieval, the platform provides streamlined access to more than 35 million peer-reviewed articles and clinical guidelines. By surfacing relevant evidence in seconds, MedVectors aims to support timely, evidence-based decision-making at the point of care, helping clinicians navigate complex medical information more efficiently and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
The Accelerator Journey
Since joining the MedTech Actuator’s Accelerator Australia Cohort 10, MedVectors has made significant progress in turning its vision into a working solution. The team successfully developed and launched its software prototype online, establishing an important foundation for further development and validation.
The startup also secured $15,000 in grant funding from Monash University and established a strategic partnership with the university, strengthening its foundations for continued growth. To support product development, the team expanded its capabilities by recruiting two software engineers, contributing to the creation of four jobs to date. These milestones mark an important step in translating MedVectors’ technology into a practical tool for clinicians and researchers, while laying the groundwork for its next phase of development.
Beyond the Program
With its prototype now launched, MedVectors is focused on validating both the market opportunity and clinical viability of its solution. The team is working towards developing a minimum viable product and finalising its go-to-market strategy to prepare the platform for broader adoption. Alongside product development, MedVectors plans to publish its research findings and present them at international conferences, contributing to the growing conversation around the role of AI in medical research and clinical decision-making. The team is also exploring opportunities to strengthen the platform’s access to trusted medical resources and expand its capabilities.
As medical knowledge continues to grow, MedVectors is working towards a future where finding and applying relevant clinical evidence is faster, simpler and more accessible so healthcare professionals spend less time searching for answers, and more time applying knowledge where it matters most: patient care.
“The MedTech Actuator program turned my interest into a reality. Working at the interface of medicine and AI, I could not have been surrounded by better expertise and support.” – Callum Munns, Co-Founder | MD
