Pulsatile Innovations: Transforming Emergency Cardiac Care with Pulse Tile™

Bailey Thomas

Every year in Australia, around 25,000 people suffer from cardiac arrest, with 90% of cases sadly ending in fatality. Pulsatile Innovations are transforming resuscitation for first responders through innovative technology designed to enhance the rescuer experience and improve patient outcomes in cardiovascular emergencies.

Their platform technology, Pulse Tile™, is a Class IIb sensing device designed to be placed on the neck of a person in suspected cardiac arrest, informing rescuers quickly and accurately regarding the presence or absence of a pulse and subsequent need for CPR. The device also provides real-time insights to the rescuer, medically trained or not, of the rate and depth of chest compressions needed to give the victim the best chance of survival.

Founded by Elleesha King, Pulsatile Innovations joined Cohort 10 of the MedTech Actuator Accelerator Australia with a self-funded prototype and a bold vision: to radically improve patient outcomes in cardiac arrest. With more than 10 years of experience caring for patients as a registered nurse and paramedic, Elleesha understood first-hand the challenges first responders face in high-pressure situations. She saw how managing multiple tasks at once can make it difficult to assess and respond to a patient quickly and effectively — challenges she found were shared by many of her colleagues and could ultimately impact a patient’s chance of survival.

During the Accelerator, Eleesha completed the Australian Clinical Entrepreneur Program cohort and presented at both the AusBiotech and AusMedtech 2025 conferences, helping build momentum for the opening of their pre-seed fundraising round. Pulse Tile™ also received the People’s Choice Award at both the Startup Network’s Female Founders Pitch Night and Swinburne Innovation Studio Venture Cup Pitch Night. The team was also accepted into the Medical Device Partnering Program (MDPP), supported by Flinders University, where they will receive 280 hours of research and development support to advance the Stage 2 prototype of Pulse Tile™. Alongside these milestones, the team expanded with five new positions and raised $200,000 towards their $850,000 pre-seed funding goal.

In addition to closing their pre-seed fundraising round, the team is preparing for their preclinical trial, scheduled for 8–9 October 2026, while finalising the next iteration of the Pulse Tile™ prototype. They are also working to secure endorsement for Pulse Tile™ from a relevant professional body or clinical group and implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) to support the device’s continued development and future regulatory pathway.

As the team moves towards clinical validation and regulatory readiness, their focus remains clear: equipping rescuers with the tools they need to make faster, more informed decisions when every second counts.

"The MedTech Actuator program has facilitated significant progress for Pulsatile Innovations. Since joining, we've expanded our network, leading to the onboarding of one KOL, opened our first funding round, and created a high-quality data room. We've been provided meaningful feedback along the way, ensuring that we have the opportunity to adjust our marketing campaign, pitch deck, and presentations, and data room to give us the greatest chance for success. Staff ensured that the program was tailored to meet the needs of all kinds of founders, meaning that, as a female founder living regionally, I was still able to fully participate."
