SoundEye: enhancing healthcare safety with sound recognition and LiDAR technology

One of the biggest challenges faced by SoundEye during the initial development of LASSO was the lack of public datasets available to train the algorithm. SoundEye overcame this by collecting real-world data and partnering with hospitals and nursing homes to co-develop the system. Despite the added obstacles of the COVID-19 pandemic, SoundEye's focus on community-benefit technology earned trust and led to key development partnerships.

SoundEye's LASSO device integrates smoothly with existing healthcare systems and delivers multiple advantages to both providers and patients. In countries such as Singapore -- where staff shortages make 24/7 monitoring difficult -- LASSO removes the need for labour-intensive patrols. The device watches washrooms and bed-wards around the clock, automatically triggers alerts, and lets staff verify each alert in seconds via a short in-app video clip. The result: faster response times and better allocation of scarce clinical resources.

Beyond hospitals, SoundEye is exploring home-based applications. LASSO could monitor elderly or disabled family members, giving caregivers peace of mind when they cannot be physically present.
