Your first step into health innovation

Turn your idea into action.

MedTech Actuator Origin equips aspiring founders with the clarity, skills and confidence to begin their journey in health innovation. With guidance from experienced mentors and a supportive peer community, you will test assumptions, refine your concept, strengthen your team, and gain a clear understanding of how health ventures develop within Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific ecosystem.

Through hands-on bootcamps and practical learning, you will validate your idea, sharpen its commercial viability, and prepare to present it on a regional stage. The top team will receive cash and in-kind prizes, along with fast-tracked entry into a follow-on program.

A two-phase journey

Phase 1: Pitch bootcamp

Build confidence, challenge your assumptions, and learn the fundamentals of communicating a health innovation. Over two intensive days, participants explore clinical needs, market fit, value proposition design, and effective pitching.

Phase 2: Venture bootcamp

Take your venture further. Participants refine problem-solution fit, explore intellectual property and regulatory pathways, strengthen their commercial narrative, and prepare for the semi-final and final at the Origin Japan Demo Day.

Eligibility

Who should apply

This program is open to individuals and teams in Japan with innovative health-related ideas, research projects, or early-stage startups.

Whether you are a clinician addressing an unmet need, a researcher with promising findings, an engineer developing a prototype, or an aspiring founder with a strong vision, Origin provides a pathway into health entrepreneurship.

You are a strong fit if you:

Have an idea, project, or early-stage startup in MedTech, BioTech, or Health Tech

Are based in Japan or developing a solution relevant to Japan or the Asia-Pacific healthcare landscape

Have early evidence of feasibility (such as research results, a prototype, IP, or strong problem insight), or are ready to develop your idea

Can commit at least one team member to participate in bootcamps and pitching sessions

Entrance pathways

How to apply

Applications are expected to open in June 2026.

Following an initial screening, shortlisted applicants will be invited to join the Pitch Bootcamp, where they will learn from experts and present their ideas. Selected teams will progress to the Venture Bootcamp, semi-final round, and final at Demo Day.
